Victor Osimhen named player of the month for January

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been named Serie A player of the month for January for his superb performances for Napoli.

Serie A announced Osimhen as the winner through their official Twitter page and on their official website as voted for by fans.

The Nigerian beat his compatriot Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, Inter's Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala of Roma and Lazio's Luis Alberto to win the award.

Osimhen was named player of the month based on the strength of his performances for Napoli in the month which he scored five goals and had an assist in five games.

The 24-year-old scored in all but one game in January as Inter Milan were the only team to successfully keep him from scoring in the first game of the month.

The Super Eagles star followed with a goal in a 2-0 win over Sampdoria, a brace and an assist in a 5-1 demolition of Juventus and one each in wins against Salernitana and Roma.

Osimhen won the award over Lookman who also scored five goals in January for Atalanta while playing four games.

Osimhen will be presented with his Player of the Month award at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium before Napoli kicks off against Cremonese on Saturday.

Osimhen has started February just as well as he ended January with a brace against Spezia last weekend, making it 16 goals in 17 Serie A games this season.
