Kenyan duo Timothy Cheruiyot and Reynold Cheruiyot made it to the final of the 1,500 at the 2025 World Championships to keep alive hopes of winning a first gold since 2019.

Timothy Cheruiyot, the last man to win the 1,500m gold for Kenya at the global championships, made it to the final after finishing fourth in Heat 1 of the semi-final in Tokyo on Monday.

Dutchman Niels Laros won the heat in a time of 3:35.50 ahead of defending champion Josh Kerr of Great Britain, who managed 3:35.53, while another Briton Jake Wightman clocked 3:35.56 for third place.

Timothy and Reynold Cheruiyot Make No Mistakes

Timothy Cheruiyot was fourth in 3:35.61 to seal his pace ahead of Irishman Andrew Coscoran, who was fifth in 3:56.65, as Swede Samuel Pihlstrom completed the lineup from Heat 1 in a time of 3:35.71.

Meanwhile, Reynold Cheruiyot made a great statement as he qualified as the winner of Heat 2 in a time of 3:36.64 ahead of Olympics champion Cole Hocker of the United States, who clocked 3:36.67 for second place, while Adrian Ben of Spain completed the podium in 3:36.78.

Portuguese Isaac Nader (3:36.86) and Kenyan-born American Jonah Koech, who clocked 3:36.86, completed the final lineup in Heat 2. However, Hocker would later be disqualified from the final for jostling on the final stretch.
