Sporting vs Club Brugge preview, prediction, team news, and head-to-head

The home team has had a decent run in the tournament this season and will hope to keep their close to 2 months unbeaten run. Their visitors come into this fixture to secure a win after failing to do so in their last three matches in the UCL.

Currently 13th on the UCL table this season, Sporting are enjoying an average run in the tournament, having gained 7 points from 4 games. (W2, D1, L1). The good thing is that their two wins so far were achieved in this same stadium.

The Portuguese outfit has been consistent lately, including a convincing 3-0 win against Marinhense in the domestic league. This fixture will provide Rui Borges an opportunity to get the needed points to possibly climb the ladder to the table's top 8. 

Meanwhile, Club Brugge started their Champions League campaign with a 4-1 victory against Monaco, but has since then failed to win any more matches.

The Belgian side stunned football fans in an entertaining 3-3 draw against Barcelona the last time. This means Nicky Hayen and his men will come into this game knowing that they're capable of causing upsets for their host.

These two sides have only met twice, and Club Brugge has been triumphant on both occasions. The last match was a 2-1 victory in a UCL group stage match last season in Belgium.

Daniel Braganca and Nuno Santos will still not be part of the Sporting manager's starting line-up.  While the former will be left out of the squad entirely, the matter will likely feature at some point in the match since he is fit.

However, both Luis Suarez and Nicolo Tresoldi will be available and lead the attack line for the Verde e brancos. 

For the Belgian side, Hayen will have no problems with team selection as he will likely use the same squad he used for the match against Charleroi.

With only Simon Mignolet and Bjorn Meijer still unavailable due to injuries, Brugge's boss will be delighted to have Christos Tzolis lead his attack line against the Portuguese.

Although Club Brugge came out on top the last two times they faced the Liga Portugal champions, they are not the favourites coming into this fixture. Sporting has been more consistent and will pose more threats.
