This year’s edition will feature a compelling mix of established global stars, seasoned domestic runners, and a new generation of junior talent ready to make their mark on a world-class stage.

Headlining the senior races are Daniel Ebenyo and Agnes Ngetich, two athletes who have become mainstays in the elite tier of global distance running.

Their presence sets a high standard for the men's and women's 10km events, which are expected to be defined by deep fields, tactical racing, and relentless competition.

Agnes Ngetich Faces a Stern Test

In the women’s 10km, 2025 winner Agnes Ngetich enters as the athlete to beat. Her aggressive, front-running style and exceptional speed endurance have made her a dominant force.

The undulating Sirikwa course is well-suited to her ability to gradually stretch the field and break her rivals. Despite her status, Agnes Ngetich will be challenged by a strong domestic lineup.

Janet Chepngetich, a cross-country veteran, will be a danger if the race becomes a test of pure endurance. The versatile Cynthia Chepngeno brings an element of unpredictability with her ability to sustain a high tempo over long distances.

Gladys Chepkurui’s race intelligence and tactical positioning will also be key assets on a course where mistakes can be costly.

Meanwhile, Stancy Chepkwemoi represents the fearless new generation, capable of disrupting established race dynamics with an early push. The race is poised to be a tactical battle, demanding patience and control from Ngetich from start to finish.

Daniel Ebenyo Faces Stiff Competition in Men’s 10km

Daniel Ebenyo, the 2025 champion, returns to the familiar and challenging Sirikwa course. The rolling terrain at Kapseret rewards athletes who can handle repeated surges and maintain a powerful rhythm, qualities that are hallmarks of Ebenyo's racing style.

However, he will face a field stacked with formidable challengers. Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli, known for his consistency in both cross country and road racing, is a major podium threat due to his composure in crowded packs.

Samwel Chebolei, a strength-based runner, could turn the race into a war of attrition by pushing the pace from the start.

Boniface Kiplimo adds another dimension with his track-honed speed, which could prove decisive if the race stays tactical into the final kilometres.

The field is further strengthened by Isaac Kibet and Brian Kipchumba, both adept at navigating dense packs and capitalising on late-race opportunities. With Kenyan rivalries expected to dominate, Ebenyo will need tactical precision to defend his title.

New Stars to Emerge in the Junior Category

A core part of the Sirikwa Classic’s identity is its showcase of emerging talent, and the U20 races promise a glimpse into the future of Kenyan distance running.

In the U20 men’s 8km, Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech is a top prospect, known for his fearless racing and strength on hilly courses.

He will be challenged by the consistent and composed Kiprono Menjo, along with Brian Kibet and Collins Kipngetich, who have both demonstrated tactical maturity beyond their years.

The U20 women’s 6km is equally stacked, led by Judith Chepkemoi, who combines speed with composure. Mary Jepkosgei brings endurance and racing savvy, while Brenda Chebet is known for her aggressive style and willingness to set a fast-early pace.

With Sheila Cherotich also in the mix, the race highlights the incredible depth that continues to define Kenya’s junior running ranks.

While Ugandan athletes are expected to bring a fierce regional challenge, particularly in the women's race, Kenya's U20 runners continue to be the benchmark for excellence in the field.
