While some Nigerian athletes are embracing the opportunities of switching nationality to European countries, Divine Oladipo has instead embraced her African roots by transferring her allegiance from Great Britain to Nigeria.

The highly rated British shot put thrower based in the United States will be eligible to represent Nigeria from August 15, having met the requirements for a switch of nationality.

Divine Oladipo represented England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham

Oladipo finished fifth in the women's Shot Put at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and became the UK women’s Discus Champion last year, throwing a Personal Best (PB) of 58.01m.

In addition, the 26-year-old has an impressive Shot Put PB of 17.97m and a season’s best of 17.12m.

Oladipo was teammates with African Championship medalist and three-time national champion Sade Olatoye in the NCAA at Ohio State University.

Both are currently in Lagos and will compete at the Nigerian Championships this weekend.
