Safari Rally secretariat launch delayed: What's next for the iconic event?

The Safari Rally has hit an unexpected snag as the much-anticipated unveiling of its organising committee has been postponed.
The ceremony, initially scheduled for Wednesday at Talanta Hela, Upper Hill, was put on hold by the Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the preparations for this prestigious motorsport event.

On February 16, a gazette notice issued by Namwamba announced the appointment of Charles Gacheru as the Safari Rally Chief Executive Officer, a position he is slated to hold for the next three years.
Gacheru, known for his nearly two-decade tenure as a director of IMG Kenya, a leading sports agency, was also designated as the Secretary to the Oversight Team, with Namwamba himself serving as the Chair.

The team's composition includes prominent figures such as Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum as Vice-Chair, and members from the PS State Department of Tourism, the Kenya Motor Sports Federation, and executives from KCB Group and other notable personalities.
The postponement has raised several questions regarding the readiness and coordination behind the scenes of the Safari Rally.
