What happened

Real Madrid erroneously used a photo of Elche striker André da Silva in a video tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, both of whom tragically died in a car crash in July 2025.

The error happened during the club’s Ordinary General Assembly today, when the obituary reel was shown to members. Real Madrid posted an apology on X saying, “Real Madrid C.F. apologises to Elche C.F. and its player André da Silva for having mistakenly included his image in the obituary of an institutional video instead of that of André Silva, the brother of Diogo Jota, the Liverpool player. We regret this incident.”

The apology came ahead of Real Madrid’s LALIGA trip to Elche the same day. The match finished 2–2, with Los Blancos needing a late Jude Bellingham equaliser to clinch a point.
