The Norwegian endured a frustrating afternoon as Manchester City secured an unprecedented fourth consecutive top-flight crown but his missed chances did not prevent him from claiming the Golden Boot.

Erling Haaland ended the 2023-24 Premier League season atop the goalscoring charts with 27 goals in 31 appearances.

The centre-forward should have added to that tally against West Ham United on the final day but spurned several promising chances to score.

Haaland’s misses were not costly in the end, as Manchester City were beneficiaries of a first-half Phil Foden brace and a Rodri strike after the interlude on Sunday, sealing the club’s fourth consecutive league win.

While Haaland did not quite match last season’s goalscoring heroics when he netted 36 times in his debut Premier League campaign, the 23-year-old became the first player in the competition’s history to win the Golden Boot in his first two years.

This year’s individual honour makes him the fourth foreigner to notch back-to-back Golden Boot wins, matching Thierry Henry (2003-04, 2004-05), Robin van Persie (2011-12, 2012-13) and Mohamed Salah (2017-18, 2018-19).

What comes next for Haaland and Manchester City?

Haaland and Man City are not done this term, with the Cityzens facing Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 25, keen to close out their 2023-24 season with a double.

Norway’s absence from this summer’s European Championship gives Haaland time off to recharge his batteries as he aims to win a third consecutive Golden Boot next season.
