Pray for favour in other results - Ex-Nigerian goalkeeper advises Super Eagles to be prayerful
Nigeria faces a must-win scenario against the Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday.
However, a victory alone may not be enough; Nigeria's fate also hinges on Rwanda securing a win against South Africa in their respective group match.
Eric Chelle’s team are currently third on the table, three points behind Benin and one point behind South Africa, following their 1-0 win against Lesotho.
What Agu said
Agu, speaking to Complete Sports, first expressed gratitude for the team's safe return to Nigeria following a mid-air incident where their aircraft had to make an emergency landing.
He then went on to say that the team need to pray and hope that fortune goes their way against Benin.
"First of all, we give glory to God for granting the players a safe trip back to Nigeria," said Agu, who earned 28 caps for his country.
"I could imagine what would have been going on in the minds of the players. But then, we bless God for taking control of the plane."
"I am sure the players are self-motivated to get the job done against Benin on Tuesday," he stated.
"They are mentally and psychologically ready to pick up the three points and pray that the other result between South Africa and Rwanda will be in our favour."
