Sha’Carri Richardson came to her first Olympic tournament as the World Champion and was looking forward to her first Olympic gold medal.
The American Athlete came second in the semi-final of the 100m race and found it hard to beat Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred.
However, she was also stunned in the final, coming second behind Julien Alfred with a time of 10.87.
Sha’Carri misses out on Olympic gold
Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred has claimed her first gold medal in an Olympic tournament, beating Sha’Carri.
The sprinter claimed the first position in the semi-final race leading up to the final and also defeated the World Champion.
Her semi-final win did not come as a fluke as she repeated the same feat in the final with a time of 10.72.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who was expected to compete for her fifth consecutive title at the Olympics shockingly withdrew from the 100m semifinals.
Her withdrawal from the race puts Sha’Carri Richardson as the favourite for gold in the Olympics.
However, the American sprinter could not live up to the expectation as she lost to Julien Alfred, while she came second.
Sha’Carri Richardson, coming second in the 100m final race came as a disappointment for the American who was gunning for gold.
She will be looking to build on her disappointing performance at the Olympics and will be hoping to maintain her record as the World Champion in the next Athletics tournament.
