Obiageri Amaechi: African Games champion writes her name in history books with monster throw in Oklahoma
An excellent performance from African Games champion Obiageri Amaechi saw her write her name in the Discus history books of Nigeria athletics, after throwing a brilliant Personal Best (PB) of 62.92m at the Oklahoma Throws Series in Ramona.
Amaechi's impressive mark sees her move second on the Nigerian all-time list, third all-time in Africa, and become only the fourth Nigerian woman to surpass 60m.
Her series was so good that she set other marks over 60m with 60.65m and 60.07m, which would have also smashed her previous PB of 58.93m thrown to win the African Games title.
She also has the farthest throw by a Nigerian and African Discus thrower this season, ahead of Chioma Onyekwere's 61.17m, which only bodes for more improved performances to secure an automatic qualification for Paris Olympic Games.
Last year, Nigeria made history with the qualification of three Discus throwers for the World Championships in Budapest, with Ashley Anumba joining the above duo.
They'll be gunning to achieve the same feat this year by qualifying for Paris.
