Alex Iwobi has become one of Nigeria's most reliable and consistent players over the past few years.

His decision to represent Nigeria over England has proved richly rewarding as the 29-year-old has now racked up 90 appearances for the Super Eagles.

The Fulham midfielder picked up his 90th cap in the 4-1 win over Gabon, a must-win game that guaranteed passage to the final of the World Cup Playoffs.

Eric Chelle's men claimed victory courtesy of goals from Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke and a brace from talisman Victor Osimhen.

Iwobi is now fourth on the Super Eagles all-time appearance list, tying the legendary Mikel Obi at 90 caps, with Joseph Yobo (100), Vincent Enyeama (101) and Ahmed Musa (111) the only names ahead of him.

Iwobi’s journey began nearly a decade ago on October 8, 2015, when he came on as a substitute in a 2-0 friendly defeat to DR Congo in Visé, Belgium. Since then, the 29-year-old has become a symbol of consistency and versatility in midfield and attack.

His next appearance will see him surpass Mikel and stand alone in third place, with the historic 100-cap milestone now firmly within reach.
