The Flying Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 0-1 lose to their counterparts from Ivory Coast in the final of WAFU U-20 Cup final.
The Flying Eagles started the tournament with a 1-1 draw against the Black Satellites of Ghana hosts of the competition.
They however were able to bounce back with a 4-1 win against the Benin Republic in their second group game.
In the quarterfinals, the Flying Eagles were able to squeeze past Niger Republic on penalties.
Flying Eagles 0-1 Ivory Coast
The Nigeria team came into the final as favorites to retain the title they won last year.
In the first half, there were no goals scored in the first half with both sides defending well.
In the second half, Nigeria began to press the issue forcing Ivory Coast with several chances.
The game seemed scheduled to go to extra time the breakthrough would come for Ivory Coast.
Against the run of play, Ivory Coast would go in front through Zakaria Tindano in the 91st minute.
That would be the only goal of the game as Ivory Coast held on for the win.
The Flying Eagles finished second as they used the WAFU tournament as a preparation for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup.
