Nicolas Pepe: Arsenal tear £72m contract to let Ivorian flop leave for free
Premier League club Arsenal have confirmed the departure of winger Nicolas Pepe.
Arsenal said in a statement that Pepe has left the club after his contract was terminated.
“We have agreed with Nicolas to terminate his contract,” the Gunners stated on their website.
Pepe at Arsenal
The 28-year-old became Arsenal then record signing when he swapped Ligue 1 for the Premier League in the summer of 2019.
He joined them from Champions LOSC Lille before falling out of favour at the club despite a bright start to life at the Emirates.
The former Lille man spent last season on loan at OGC Nice where he made 28 appearances and scored eight goals.
But it was obvious he had no future at the club despite having a year left on his contract at Arsenal.
Pepe made 112 appearances for the North Londoners and scored 27 goals across all competitions.
The Ivorian helped the Gunners win the FA Cup in 2020, scoring the winning goal against city rivals Chelsea at Wembley.
Pepe joins Trabzonspor
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Ivorian appears to have moved on with his life after switching to the Turkish Super Lig.
As per Pulse Sports, Pepe has joined former Turkish champions Trabzonspor.
