Nickisha Pryce: 3 records obliterated by Jamaica's new 400m queen at the NCAA Championships

Nickisha Pryce is the new Jamaican queen of the 400m event after her historic display at the NCAA Championships in Oregon.

The University of Arkansas senior who has had a tremendous season, signed off her collegiate circuit in style by clocking the fastest times in the NCAA this year and climaxing with the title in a record-breaking mark.

In the women's 400m final, Pryce was in a class apart as she blazed to the finish line in a historic Personal Best (PB) of 48.89s, thus inspiring a 1-2-3-4 finish for her teammates - the first time in NCAA history.

Aside from this, her jaw-dropping time entered the record books in several other ways, which are listed below.

Pryce's time obliterated Britton Wilson's Collegiate Record of 49.13s set in 2023 and made her the first female quarter-miler in collegiate history to break the 49s barrier.

She smashed Lorraine Fenton's 22-year-old Jamaican record of 49.30s, became the first woman from her country to go below the 49s mark and her time is currently the 13th fastest in history alongside Ana Gruevara of Mexico.

As stated earlier, Pryce inspired a clean sweep for her schoolmates, who ran record-breaking times of their own.

Kaylyn Brown finished second in 49.13s which would have tied the previous collegiate record, Amber Anning was third in 49.59s, and Rosey Effiong fourth in 49.72.

It is the first time in the NCAA there would be a 1-2-3-4 finish from the same school, and all going sub-50s in the final.
