Donnarumma revealed his ambition ahead of a potential debut as soon as Sunday’s high-profile Manchester derby against Manchester United.

“Playing in the Premier League for Manchester City is incredibly emotional for me, and I’m ready for this challenge,” Donnarumma told AFP via Sport.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League; it’s the best league in the world. I believe that for any player, reaching something significant in the Premier League is the pinnacle of their career.”

He pledged to give his all on the pitch to repay the faith Manchester City showed in securing his signature. The Italian will take over as City’s number one goalkeeper following the departure of Brazilian veteran Ederson, who recently transferred to Fenerbahce Istanbul.

Before Donnarumma’s arrival, City signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley, who started all three of their Premier League matches this season. With Donnarumma excited to play for Guardiola now on board, the competition for the goalkeeper spot is set to intensify.

Donnarumma’s move marks a major coup for Manchester City, adding a world-class goalkeeper with experience at the highest levels of international and club football.
