Reactions as Erling Haaland leaves fans speechless with goalscoring streak in Man City's FA Cup win against Burnley
Manchester City became the third team to reach the FA Cup semi-finals for a fifth successive season after an Erling Haaland hat-trick saw them cruise to a 6-0 demolition of Championship leaders Burnley.
The build-up to the quarter-final for the Emirates FA Cup was highlighted by the return of Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany to the Etihad Stadium.
The Burnley boss came up against his former coach Pep Guardiola but was however, properly schooled on the night with City affording the former Belgium international no means of consolation whatsoever.
Burnely started the match well creating some dangerous chances.
The Clarets leading goalscorer this season Nathan Tella saw his effort saved by Stefan Ortega in the 18th minute.
However, the visitors hopes of reaching their first FA Cup semi-final since 1974 suffered an early blow by none other than Erling Haaland in the space of three minutes.
After racking up five goals in Man City’s 7-0 demolition of RB Leipzig in the Champions League midweek, the Norwegian striker picked up where he left off, firing past the onrushing Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the 32nd minute for 40th goal of the campaign.
Three minutes later, Haaland grabbed a brace after guiding home a low cross from Phil Foden to give the Cityzens a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
Second Half
The second period was dominated by City once more as expected with pep Guardiola showing Vincent Kompany’s team no mercy.
Peacock-Farrell was almost helpless on the night as Haaland grabbed a hat-trick just before the hour mark, his second in the space of five days.
Burnely never looked like they were in the contest with the Premier League champions attacking at will before soon finding a fourth goal.
Julián Álvarez tapped home from Kevin De Bruyne’s squared pass in the 62nd minute to put City 4-0 up.
With just over 20 minutes left to play, a howler from Peacock-Farrell parry landed in the path of substitute Cole Palmer, who fired into an empty Burnley net to open his account for the season and put City 5-0 up.
But the hosts weren’t done yet, as Julian Alvarez stretched his team’s lead even further in the 73rd minute to complete the demolition and boot Bunrley out of the FA Cup.
The win for City now sees them qualify for the semi-finals of the FA Cup, as Guardiola’s men look to be in search of an unprecedented treble.
Burnley on the othe rhand will now return their attention to their promotional bid with the Clarets still leading at the top of the Championship summit by 13 points from 37 games played.

Haaland scoring 7 goals in both games.
Arsenal fans should be worried 😐
To put Erling Haaland's current goal scoring season into perspective, he's scoring non-penalty goals at a rate of 1.1 per 90.

Do you know how many individual seasons this century have scored at a higher rate than that?
One, only Lionel Messi 12/13, no others.
