Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly agreed to a British record transfer fee to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, according to media reports on Monday.

The Swedish forward is expected to join the Reds in a deal valued at approximately £130 million ($176 million).

The Athletic reported that Isak is scheduled for a medical on Monday before finalising a six-year contract with the Merseyside club.

This transfer fee would establish a new Premier League record, surpassing the £106 million Chelsea paid to Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

The 25-year-old was a standout performer last season, scoring 23 Premier League goals—second only to Liverpool's Mohamed Salah—as Newcastle secured Champions League qualification.

Lavish Summer Spending for Liverpool

His potential move has been the subject of a lengthy and contentious transfer saga this summer, with Isak training separately from the Newcastle squad after expressing his desire to join Liverpool.

Newcastle are said to have rejected an initial £110 million offer for the striker earlier in the summer.

However, the deal moved forward after the Magpies signed German international striker Nick Woltemade on Saturday for a club-record fee reported to be worth up to £69 million.

Isak will be the latest major signing in a lavish summer spending spree for Liverpool, who also acquired German midfielder Florian Wirtz in another high-profile deal.

The Reds have further strengthened their squad by signing French attacker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Newcastle Yield After Signing New Striker

On Friday, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe hinted for the first time that he might be open to Isak's departure, citing the positive impact the sale would have on the club's profit and sustainability calculations.

The northeast club had to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh last year to avoid a points deduction, and a significant return on their investment in Isak would alleviate any concerns regarding Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR).

Despite the influx of new talent, Liverpool have yet to display the relentless form that saw them cruise to the Premier League title last season with four games to spare.

Nevertheless, they currently sit at the top of the table with three wins from three matches, following a 1-0 victory over last year's runners-up, Arsenal, at Anfield on Sunday.

In contrast, Newcastle are 17th in the early standings after a 0-0 draw against Leeds United.
