Kishane Thompson Fires World Indoors Warning to Noah Lyles After Clocking 60m Personal Best in Kingston
World 100m silver medalist Kishane Thompson made a major statement when he won the 60m dash in a new personal best at the Gibson McCook Relays in Kingston on Saturday.
In what was a major statement ahead of the World Indoor Championships, Thompson got off the blocks well and fended off the opposition before winning the race in a personal best of 6.46 seconds ahead of Jamaican compatriots Bryan Levell, who clocked 6.47 seconds, and Ackeem Blake (6.48).
Thompson was running just his third race this season and looked like a man ready for the battle this year when he led from start to finish.
The Olympics silver medalist has now run three 60m races this season, starting the year with a win at the JAAA/PUMA Fuller Anderson Meet, when he clocked 6.52 seconds, before a third-place finish at the BAUHAUS-galan Indoor in Stockholm, where he managed 6.56 seconds, both races in January.
Warning to Noah Lyles?
It is encouraging signs for Thompson heading to the 2026 World Indoor Championships set to be held in Kujawy-Pomorze, Poland from March 20-22.
Thompson fired a warning of some sort to his main rivals like Noah Lyles who will be his key competitor in Poland during the event.
Meanwhile, Jonielle Smith clocked 7.07 seconds to win the women's 60m, edging out Tina Clayton, who ran 7.08 seconds.
It is back-to-back second place finishes for world silver medalist Clayton but it was an improvement on the 7.14 seconds she clocked in Stockholm in January.
