Kenya Simbas coach explains what they need to work on to silence Uganda in Victoria-cum-Elgon Cup tie
Kenya Simbas intend to work on their set-pieces and breakdowns ahead of Sunday’s crunch match against Uganda which will serve as their second Victorian Cup tie as well as the Elgon Cup opener.
Simbas began their Victoria Cup campaign with a 36-12 victory over Zambia on Wednesday in Kampala and take on the hosts at King’s Park in the same city with Uganda having also managed a win over Zambia, victory for either side will secure the title.
That means both sides will need to be at their best and Simbas assistant coach Curtis Aluoch feels they have every chance of emerging victorious if they do not give so much away and capitalise on their opportunities.
“We missed out on a few try-scoring opportunities, a lot of penalties in the first half [against Zambia] but the boys worked hard in the second half,” said Aluoch.
“We look forward to that game [against Uganda], we look to work on a few nitty-gritty on our set-pieces and breakdown areas and we will be fine,” he added.
Kenya last secured the Victoria Cup in the inaugural edition in 2010 and will need no motivation against their neighbours.
The Simbas will also hope to gain a first leg advantage in the Elgon Cup before the return leg in Kisumu on November 11.
The cross-border fixture between Kenya and Uganda has been played since 2004 with the former winning 11 of the 13 editions played so far.

Simbas named four debutants in the squad for the tournament but it was the veterans who did the job against Zambia, Jone Kubu converting tries from Hillary Odhiambo and Joel Inzuga before later landing an unconverted one while Paul Mutsami, Teddy Akala, and George Nyambua also went over the try-line.
