Kaizer Chiefs Legend Backs Pitso Mosimane Over Benni McCarthy for Club's Top Job
Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has voiced his opinion on the club's coaching crisis, endorsing Pitso Mosimane as the ideal candidate to steer the team out of its current troubles.
The Soweto-based club is in the midst of a difficult period under the guidance of interim coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.
A string of four consecutive losses in all competitions has seen the team slide down the Betway Premiership table and crash out of the CAF Confederation Cup, leading to growing frustration among supporters.
During a recent appearance on Metro FM, Baloyi, affectionately known as "Spiderman," was direct in his assessment of the club's technical team.
He argued that the immense pressure of Kaizer Chiefs' job demands a seasoned manager, a quality he feels the current coaches and other potential candidates may not possess.
Pitso Mosimane Backed to Lead Kaizer Chiefs Over Benni McCarthy
"There’s a lot of them; yes, Benni [McCarthy] would be a right fit, definitely Pitso would also be, but I’d take Pitso over Benni," Baloyi stated as quoted by Pan Africa Football.
While Benni McCarthy is a fan favourite for the position, Baloyi believes the former Manchester United first-team coach needs more experience before taking on such a significant rebuilding project.
"Benni, as much as he’s a good coach, I think he’s still inexperienced to get to that level," Baloyi explained. "You need a mentor. You need someone who knows how to rebuild, to build everything from scratch."
Baloyi Champions Local Coaching Talent
In recent years, Kaizer Chiefs have frequently hired European coaches, but Baloyi is convinced that the solution can be found within South Africa. He highlighted a new generation of local managers who have a deep understanding of the domestic league.
"There’s more, Fadlu Davids, there’s Rulani [Mokwena], and there’s Manqoba [Mngqithi]," he noted. "There are a lot of coaches that can do a good job at Chiefs that are South African before we even go out looking for European coaches."
With rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates currently dominating the top of the league, Baloyi’s support for Mosimane is rooted in the coach's proven ability to challenge established powers and build successful, long-lasting teams.
