Kagame congratulates Arsenal, warns opponents after Community Shield triumph
Rwanda president Paul Kagame has never hidden his love for English Premier League giants Arsenal.
The football-mad president came out on Sunday night to congratulate the club after beating English champions Manchester City 4-1 in penalties to win the 2023 Community Shield.
Cole Palmer had given the Blues the lead in the 77th minute, but Belgian international Leandro Trossard saved the Gunners deep in extra time to force a penalty shootout.
Arsenal’s Fabio Viera, Bukayo Saka, Trossard and Martin Odegaard made no mistakes from the spot as Manchester City managed only one successful strike to lose 4-1.
“Congrats, Arsenal,” Kagame tweeted before firing a warning shot, saying that the result “Shows what’s to come!”

Kagame’s love for the club has stretched as far as sponsorship after influencing Rwanda Tourism Board’s partnership with Arsenal, believed to be worth $50 million (approx. shs.182 billion).
He also sponsors the CECAFA Club Championships to the tune of $60,000 per year.
The Community Shield ushered the new English Premier League season that kicks off this weekend.
