Jose Mourinho responds to Chelsea return rumours

Jose Mourinho has hinted that he could leave Roma this season but stopped short of responding to rumours linking him with a move back to Chelsea. 

Reports in England claim Mourinho is interested in a return to the Premier League, with a third spell at Chelsea on his mind. 

Mourinho had two successful separate stints with The Blues, winning three league titles, two League Cups and a FA Cup across the two spells. 

The 60-year-old has since left Chelsea, going on to manage Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and currently Roma. 

Mourinho joined Roma in 2021, signing a three-year deal with the club. The ex-Real Madrid man had a debut campaign to remember as he led Roma to the UEFA Europa Conference League title. 

Mourinho is in his second year at Roma, with I Giallorossi in contention for a Champions League spot, Coppa Italia and the Europa League. 

However, despite Roma’s decent season so far, Mourinho is reportedly not happy due to a lack of financial backing. 

This has led to Mourinho hinting he could leave the club this summer, although he was coy on the report linking him with a move back to the Premier League. 

”Whether I stay at Roma or not and under what conditions I only talk about it with the club, not with you,” Mourinho said ahead of Roma’s clash against Napoli. 

“I am calm, I live day after day.  Then when the property decides to talk to me about the future, I'm here. Today I only think about Rome and the present.”

I don’t want anything, I just take it one day at a time. When the club wants to talk to me, I am here, always. I am thinking only of Roma, not of my future,” Mourinho added. 

Mourinho also went on to add that he is not expecting any new arrivals before the deadline day due to Financial Fair Play restrictions. 

“The FFP situation is clear, we all have a complete vision of Roma’s limitations. I don’t expect anyone else to arrive, we go like this to the end,” he said. 

Mourinho and Roma will turn their attention to matters on the pitch as they take on Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
