Dominant Arsenal rescue a point

The Gunners were pegged back early at the Emirates after a 9th minute Erling Haaland strike. However, they roused themselves and had Manchester City on the back foot for the rest of the game.

They limited Pep Guardiola’s side to occasional counter attacks, and enjoyed the biggest share of possession ever recorded against the Spanish tactician in his career.

However, their efforts were not enough to secure maximum points, and could only manage a point thanks to an injury time Gabriel Martinelli strike

What Arteta said

In his post-match interview, Arteta expressed his disappointment over the result, but hailed his players for dominating the match.

"I'm very proud of the team, I must say,” he said, per the BBC. “We dominated them, and I'm very disappointed with the result.”

Arsenal were much improved in the second half after a ponderous first 45 minutes, and Arteta credited two unspecified changes and the introduction of his “finishers” for their improvement.

"Let's continue what we're doing because the game is there for the taking. If we continue to do that and improve two things, especially, that we had to do a bit better to give ourselves better chances and more momentum, then we'll score the goals. And we were very close to that."

Quizzed about the two things he asked them to improve on, he said, "That stays in the dressing room."
