‘It’s always been a big part of my life’ - Man United defender explains meaning of Nigerian name ‘Chinazaekpere’
The defender joined the Red Devils during the 2025 winter transfer window from Lecce after an impressive season.
He joined for a fee worth £25 million, with additional performance-related bonuses, before signing a contract until 2030, with an option for an extra year.
However, since joining the Red Devils, the club's performance has dipped, with the team only securing two wins this season.
Dorgu speaks on Nigerian name
The Danish international embraced his Igbo middle name, "Chinazaekpere," to honour both his heritage and his religious upbringing.
Speaking at his local church, Dorgu explained that "Chinazaekpere" translates to "God answers prayers," a name that reflects the deep-seated faith that has guided him since childhood.
"Religion means a lot to me; it’s always been a big part of my life and my family's. I’ve always been praying since I was young, and I keep praying," Dorgu stated, as quoted by Manchester United's official website.
Dorgu credits his upbringing in Denmark, surrounded by a strong family and community, for instilling the values that shape both his personal life and his professional career.
Dorgu was reportedly monitored by the Super Eagles coaching staff before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but later committed his future to Denmark.
