‘It had a huge impact’ - Amorim reveals the one thing that changed Man United's season
Amorim endured a difficult start to the Premier League season, with the team's performance being questioned.
The manager, who will mark the one-year anniversary of his first match in charge on Monday, was under significant pressure following a 3-1 loss to Brentford in late September.
However, the Old Trafford part-owner’s intervention, stating during the October international break that the Portuguese manager should be evaluated over a three-year period, changed a lot.
Amorim speaks on Man United’s new form
The former Sporting Lisbon coach credits the co-owner's words with calming the atmosphere around the club.
"If you remember when Jim gave the interview, it settled down a lot around the club," Amorim said. "The noise around the club changed completely, and that was really important for the team and me."
"It had a huge impact—not on the way I do things—but on the way people see what we are doing. So it was massive for us."
While Amorim appreciated the public support, he revealed that this message was consistent with what he had been told privately.
In an interview with StanSport, he added: "It’s always really important—but it’s more important for the fans to understand we have a clear path and we are going to continue to follow it."
"For me, it doesn’t change much—I’m not worried about losing my job. It’s a good thing to hear, but it will not change anything in the way I behave. I know clearly which path I have to go."
United's next fixture is against Everton on Monday night, a year to the day since Amorim's first game, a 1-1 draw with Ipswich.
