‘Is not stubbornness, it is stupidity’ - Chelsea legend Mikel Obi questions Amorim’s coaching skills
The Red Devils have endured a torrid start to the season, despite a summer spending spree of around €200 million on new attacking players.
However, the club has managed only two wins in their first six league matches, suffering three defeats.
Amorim, who took charge at Old Trafford last November, has faced mounting pressure over the team's poor performances, with a record of 17 losses in 33 Premier League games.
Mikel Obi slams Amorim
Mikel Obi, a Chelsea legend, believes Amorim's stubbornness is a sign that he is out of his depth, questioning Amorim's game Management
Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, the former Nigerian international expressed his doubts about the United manager's capabilities.
"I think he's a good manager, but I'm not sure about the system he wants to use at Manchester United," Mikel stated.
"I played under some of the best managers during my playing days; I studied them, their mentality and how they approach games."
"Ruben Amorim was losing at Brentford and I expected him to change things up, but he stuck to his three at the back. Why? The problem is way too much for him to deal with; he can't fix it. His energy is affecting the players."
"His refusal to even change his lineup is not stubbornness, it is stupidity. Top managers adapt—look at Pep Guardiola, for example," he continued.
"Now, when teams come to play Manchester United, they know how to prepare. When Manchester United are losing, he needs to switch things up, change the formation."
With results continuing to go against Manchester United, speculation is growing that Amorim's time at the club could be running out if he fails to turn things around quickly.
