The opening day of the Safari 7s 2025 tournament at Nyayo National Stadium was disrupted on Friday evening following a floodlight failure that plunged the venue into darkness.

The outage occurred shortly after the Shogun versus KCB Rugby match, which ended 17–14, at around 6:40 p.m. The incident forced organizers to temporarily halt play as technicians worked to restore lighting.

The blackout affected the scheduled evening fixtures, including the Kenya Shujaa clash against Walukubi Rugby and the Legends match, both of which were postponed to Saturday.

According to tournament officials, the power issue was later resolved, and play was expected to continue as planned for the second day.

In Group A, defending champions Costa Blanca Barbarians began their title defense with a 29–0 win over Mwamba Ladies Select. The Kenya Cubs, the Lionesses’ development team, lost 32–5 to the Shoguns, while Uganda came from 10–0 down to defeat Belgium 12–10.
