Former Uganda Pool Cranes captain fails to qualify for Nile Special National open

Former Uganda Pool Cranes skipper Alfred “Blacksheep” Gumikiriza has failed to qualify for the Nile Special National Pool Opens that will take place next month.

The 2012 National champion was knocked out by Ronald Akampulira in the Round of 16 in the regional level over the weekend at Gumikiriza’s own Blacksheep Arena in Mukono.

Gumikiriza opted to compete for a place from his own turf as opposed to several top players who chose upcountry venues with weaker opponents.

Two-time National champion Jonah Turigye avoided Gumikiriza’s fate after winning the Matugga regional qualifiers at the Koma Gardens in Matugga.

He beat Timothy Kasujja and Godfrey Kaggwa who qualified as second and third, respectively.

The regional qualifiers will conclude this weekend at various venues.
