Following a meeting between FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) members on Friday, it was resolved that Mohammed must step aside, alongside co-opted NEC member Yusuf Ibrahim and acting CEO Dennis Gicheru over allegations of misuse of public funds.

“It has come to the attention of the NEC and the country that serious breaches of the FKF Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Kenya including:- financial impropriety,” the statement from the FKF NEC meeting read.

“Misappropriation of public funds, including alleged theft of approximately Kh42,000,000 from the CHAN bank account, serious breaches of the Public Procurement and Assets Disposal Act 2015 and Public Finance Management Act, including non-competitive procurement of goods and services and conflict of interest.”

What has landed Mohammed in trouble is a CHAN 2024 insurance contract worth KSh42 million, allegedly awarded to a recently registered company, despite receiving more competitive offers from well-known insurers for as little as KSh29 million.

The FKF NEC wants Mohammed to step aside to allow full investigation into the matter with FIFA, CAF and the Ministry of Sports asked to ensure those responsible for the loss of public funds are apprehended.

Twelve NEC members attended the meeting, including Vice President McDonald Mariga, who has been installed as president in an acting capacity.
