Omanyala wowed his fans when he gave them a glimpse of his home via a recent social media post and while there has been debate about the actual cost of the house, the sprinter has explained why it cost so much.

“Building is hard, the problem is the contractor tells you one price but it then comes up double. So it is tough,” Omanyala said on Obinna TV.

Built in the outskirts of Nairobi, Omanyala’s mansion is a flat-roofed house which has a modern exterior made up of pure concrete with a boxy, symmetrical layout.

It has large floor-to-ceiling windows that allow in ample natural light while he has chosen different shades of colours on the bulbs for night vision.

The mansion has a visible balcony that has metallic grills and multiple floors with a railing and a terrace. Its finishing has been done in a crisp manner and is grey in colour, matching his taste.

However, while many would call it their dream house, for the Commonwealth 100m champion, it is still not yet.

“It feels so peaceful to live there. I feel like I will still build some more houses but that is my first house,” he added, before shading light on what inspired his choice of design.

“Something unique because we have travelled to different places in the world and seen many things. The idea was to build a house such that if I went to a hotel, I would not feel like it is greater. I wanted something different,” said the 30-year-old.

Omanyala’s house sits on 10,000 square feet, equivalent to a quarter of an acre, with a large compound that has enough space which can serve as parking and also host outdoor events. It has grey prefabricated concrete paving blocks, popularly known as cabro, laid all round.

While its interior is not known, the house has a concrete wall all-round the compound and an electrical and hot wire fence over the wall.

Why Omanyala’s Mansion Went Beyond Budget

Omanyala says the cost of the mansion went up due to a number of factors, key among them being that he was not present most of the time due to his commitments as a professional athlete.

“I lost a lot because I was not around. I travel a lot and I know I was lied to,” he admitted while giving a hint at how much it could have cost. “Ksh20 million is very little, what I showed [on social media] was like half of the house because there is the backyard.”

The mansion, completed last year, took Omanyala one year to construct.
