Emiliano Martinez's Representative Breaks Silence Over Failed Man United Move
It's been an intense few weeks for Emiliano MartÃnez. Despite being twice named the world's best goalkeeper, "Dibu" couldn't secure his desired transfer during the summer window and will, therefore, remain at Aston Villa, according to The Athletic.
The Argentine had aimed for a move to Manchester United, hoping to become their starting goalkeeper over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. However, Ruben Amorim opted to sign Lammens from Antwerp for €21 million, leaving the 2022 World Cup winner heartbroken.
MartÃnez had even bid an emotional farewell to fans in tears during the final home game of last season and was subsequently dropped from Unai Emery's squad for the last weekend's match. When questioned about the Argentine's absence, the Spanish coach simply replied, "Marco Bizot," referring to the Dutch goalkeeper who then conceded three goals to Crystal Palace (0-3) at home.

With the transfer window closing for most countries, Galatasaray made a late push for Dibu, but he rejected any approach from Turkish football. As a result, the goalkeeper will be reintegrated into the squad and return to contention after the international break.
'At Aston Villa, Emi MartÃnez is the Maradona of Napoli'
His brother, Alejandro, assured that the player and coach never had issues. "They told me that Emi gave a lot as a professional and as a person; they adore him, and that was visible on the field. He is very much loved, and the directors didn't want to sell him because he is the key player of the team, and another team wanted him. It was a commercial dispute. These are decisions made by the club's directors. It didn't happen, but it's like everything else in business. The sporting side was left out, and everything is fine," he told DSports Radio.
"Emi never had an argument with Unai. Everything was under the control of the board, and the clubs couldn't reach an agreement. At Aston Villa, he is the Diego [Maradona] of Napoli. He gave so much to Villa, like Kun [Aguero] did to Man City, like Leo [Messi] did to Barca. They are legendary players, and it will be difficult to surpass what he has done at Aston Villa," he stated, before handing the floor to their father, Alberto.
"This is a job, this is a factory, and factories have employees. He is just another employee, and the factory won't fire him if he's good. It's all about business. Tomorrow it will happen, today it didn't," he concluded.
