Sunday morning's boxing gala, headlined by Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, recorded the second-largest announced attendance for an indoor boxing event in US history. The capacity of Allegiant Stadium (home of the Las Vegas Raiders) was announced at 70,482 spectators.

It remains unclear how many of these impressive numbers represent actual ticket sales, as noted by "The Ring" magazine.

Alvarez's technical knockout victory over Billy Joe Saunders in May 2021 holds the record for the largest indoor attendance in the US – 66,065 tickets sold plus 989 distributed at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The total attendance was 67,054 people, while promoter Matchroom Boxing announced 73,126 on fight night, including all staff working the event.

Regardless, the paid attendance for Alvarez-Saunders surpassed the long-standing record set by the Muhammad Ali-Leon Spinks rematch in September 1978 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans (63,352 people).

Several outdoor boxing cards in the US have drawn even larger announced crowds than those for Alvarez-Saunders and Alvarez-Crawford.

Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs), from Omaha, Nebraska, defeated Mexico's Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) by unanimous decision, becoming a world champion in a fifth different division and an undisputed champion in a third weight class. He claimed the Ring, IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles from the favoured Alvarez.

The Alvarez-Crawford gala was the first boxing event held at Allegiant Stadium, which opened before the 2020 NFL season.

Alvarez, long the biggest draw in American boxing, fought in a Las Vegas stadium for the first time. His previous five bouts in the city were at the nearby T-Mobile Arena, where he has headlined 10 times in the past nine years. Additionally, Alvarez has stepped into the ring eight times at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
