Buhari fails to stop playmaker Victor Osimhen and Galatasaray in seven-goal thriller

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen and his Galatasaray teammates faced off against compatriot Ibrahim Buhari and Elfsborg in a thrilling Europa League encounter that ended in a 4-3 victory for the Turkish giants.

Despite not finding the back of the net, Osimhen, who is within inches of a Cristiano Ronaldo record, played a pivotal role, providing an assist for the winning goal on Wednesday.

The match kicked off with a remarkable first-half performance from Galatasaray, who took a commanding 3-0 lead before the break.

Mauro Icardi opened the scoring, with Osimhen heavily involved in the build-up. An own goal from Elfsborg added to their tally, followed by a stunning strike from Baris Yilmaz.

However, the second half turned into a nail-biter as Elfsborg mounted a comeback, pulling two goals back.

The second goal came from a penalty after a lengthy VAR check penalised Yilmaz for handball, turning him from hero to villain before he was substituted by his coach.

With just seven minutes remaining, Osimhen set up Yanus Akgun to restore Galatasaray's two-goal lead.

However, poor defending allowed Elfsborg to score again, making it 4-3 and setting up a tense finish.

Osimhen failed to get on the score sheet after that Puskas-worthy strike at the last time and was substituted shortly after his assist, leaving fans anxious as they watched the final moments unfold.

In an additional twist, Michy Batshuayi thought he had scored Galatasaray's fifth goal to secure the win, but VAR intervened once more to rule it out for offside.

Akgun’s goal marked a significant milestone as he became the first Galatasaray player to score in three consecutive European matches since the 2012/2013 season.
