Kibet joined Celta Vigo from Nastic Soccer Academy in July, beginning a new chapter in his young career, as he looks to light up La Liga in the near future.

The 19-year-old was signed into the Celta Vigo youth team to continue his development and he is lucky that his national team coach McCarthy played for the Spanish club.

McCarthy turned out for Celta Vigo from 1999-2003, making 105 appearances while scoring 30 goals, and given he understands the club so well, he sought to help out the Kenyan youngster.

“He [McCarthy] told me that I first need to learn Spanish because once I learn the language, it will be easier to communicate and to understand what the coaches and teammates need from me,” Kibet told the media as quoted by Mozzart Sport.

Kibet Reveals Key Improvements Since Joining Celta

“I am currently working on it as Celta have enrolled all the players who can't speak Spanish in a Spanish class,” added the attacking midfielder, who has followed the South African tactician’s advice.

Kibet says joining Celta Vigo has greatly elevated his game, sharing some of the technical improvements he has experienced since linking up with the club.

“I have started more on the technical part; understanding the game and knowing what I am supposed to do at different moments, and that is what I have been working on, as it is what I need to improve in my game currently,” he added.

Kibet has since won the trust of McCarthy, who handed him his maiden Harambee Stars call-up, for this month’s friendly matches against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal.

The former St Anthony’s Boys, Kitale star will be hoping to play a part as Kenya face Equatorial Guinea on November 14, before taking on the Teranga Lions three days later.
