3 things to expect from the Champions League this week
The quarterfinal of the Champions League enters its decisive second leg round this midweek with some games hanging in the balance.
The boys will further be separated from the men this week in the Champions League as the quarterfinal stage ends the second leg.
While Real Madrid and Manchester City look comfortable going into the second leg, Chelsea, Benfica, and Napoli still have much to play for.
But what can you expect from some of these teams when the second-leg ties get underway tonight? Here are three things to look forward to from the Champions League's last eight encounters.
Osimhen to return to the Champions League
In two matches without their Nigerian superstar, Victor Osimhen, Serie A leaders SSN Napoli suffered an aggregate 5-0 defeat to AC Milan, including a 1-0 loss in the Champions League.
Napoli looked different without Osimhen leading the line in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal battle at San Siro.
He picked up an injury during the last international break when he was on duty with the Nigeria Super Eagles.
However, his manager, Luciano Spalletti, will be happy to have his star forward back after he successfully returned to action at the weekend in the league.
Napoli will be looking to end the run of consecutive defeats to the Rosonerri when they host them tonight at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Key record: Napoli are playing in the Champions League last eight for the first time in their history.
Landmark for Real Madrid legends
Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and club legend Toni Kroos are set for another memorable Champions League night at Stamford Bridge.
When Benzema and Kroos step on the Stamford pitch with Real Madrid, they will be making a landmark 150th appearance in the elite club competition.
Should both players feature against the Blues, they will join an elite group that includes Real legends, Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Xavi Hernandez.
Key record: The last time Benzema and Kroos visited Stamford Bridge, they walked away with a 3-1 win with Benzema netting a hat-trick.
Real Madrid and City in control
Ahead of the second leg battles this week, the duo of Real Madrid and Manchester City are the most comfortable.
Madrid defeated Chelsea 2-0 in the second leg while City were too hot for Bayern Munich and new manager, Thomas Tuchel, following a 3-0 thrashing.
Both clubs are clear favourites to book a place in the semifinals after this round of matches alongside Italian club, Inter Milan, who also have a 2-0 advantage over Benfica.
However, the key question heading into these games is, considering the pedigree of the clubs involved, can Bayern, Chelsea and Benfica serve interesting and historic comeback stories?
One thing is certain, especially for German giants, Bayern, who are 3-0 down, they will need a historic performance and result to join Barcelona, Liverpool, Roma and Deportivo La Coruña as the only clubs to have overturned three or four-goal defeats in the first leg.
