Contrary to the men’s game, the tactician noted that there was a handful of people who had attended the match.
Mwamba Ladies RFC head coach Joseph Baabu believes women’s rugby has the ability to grow with support from stakeholders.
Baabu noted that the men’s side is thriving because many people support the sport. He sighted an example of the final between Kabras Sugar and Kenya Commercial Bank and noted that huge numbers of fans turned up to support the teams.
“The ladies side has the ability to develop but we lack support. I would like to urge people to come and support us. Looking at the stadium during the match, not so many people showed up unlike the men’s match,” he said.
Despite defending their Kenya Cup title, Baabu insisted there’s still more to do going forward. He led the team to secure a narrow 21-20 win over Impala Roans at the final played at the Impala Club Grounds on Saturday, March 11.
The tactician, however, noted that the players could use some help when it comes to executing the tactics the coach taught them.
“Their mentality of the players was good. In terms of game play, there were things that they did that I do not agree with. They didn’t execute everything correctly but now we have time to work on that,” he said.
He added that their season has been a roller coaster as they were changing their management and that interfered with the team. “We also do not have a training ground but the management is doing a great job to make sure we train at least twice a week,” he said.
He concluded by lauding Impala for their good game management in the first half. “They are a well-coached team and are well organised,” he said.
