The rally driver has been under investigation by the DCI detectives since December last year
The World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally Kenya has severed links with embattled rally ace Maxine Wahome.
According to a press release issued on Friday, 10 March, the WRC Safari Rally said it was disassociating itself with Wahome, who has attracted global attention after being charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Asad Khan.
“Following the recent legal developments concerning Maxine Wahome, the WRC Safari Rally Kenya has decided to release Maxine from further engagements in the Young Rally Stars program to deal with the legal developments,” read a section of the statement.
Wahome was included in the Young Stars program in June 2022. The FIA Rally Star Programme is a global initiative that seeks to identify, train and develop talented drivers aged between 17 and 27.
The enrollment came after she became the first Kenyan female driver to win the World Rally Championship-3 (WRC3).
Wahome has been battling the court case and was arraigned on Wednesday, 8 March, before the High Court to face murder charges.
She did not plead to the charge as the court directed that she undergo a mental assessment to ascertain whether she was fit to stand trial.
The rally driver was detained at the DCI offices in Kilimani before being formally charged on March 15.
