Mohammed Bajaber: Why Harambee Stars Forward Faces Uncertain Future in Tanzania
Kenyan starboy Mohammed Bajaber joined Tanzanian giants Simba for big money last July but he could end up leaving the club earlier than expected over a number of reasons.
This presents a significant opportunity for Jonah Ayunga, who was born in Beaminster, England, to a Kenyan father and an English mother.
The forward has already earned nine caps for the Harambee Stars and is determined to be part of the squad for the historic home tournament.
Jonah Ayunga Knows How to Get Benni McCarthy's Nod
"I think we'll start preparations this year, leading into next," Jonah Ayunga stated in an interview with Bridport News.
"I need to make sure I am doing well enough at club level to get selected and take my chances when I am out there. It would definitely be a career highlight to be out there playing in that."
The 28-year-old's journey to international football has been a long one. His career began in the youth system at Bridport YFC before spells at Dorchester Town and Poole Town. He now plays in the Scottish Premiership for St Mirren, where he recently won the Scottish League Cup.
Jonah Ayunga's path to his first cap was marked by setbacks. He received his first call-up in 2016 after moving from Dorchester Town to Brighton & Hove Albion, but passport issues prevented him from making his debut. A second opportunity in 2017 was thwarted when the training camp was cancelled.

Jonah Ayunga: I Went Out When I Was A Bit Young
After an eight-year wait, he finally made his international debut nearly two years ago, an experience he described as ‘amazing.’
"I went out when I was a bit younger when I was at Brighton, and then as I was moving around different clubs, it went a bit quiet on that front," he explained. "But since being up here at St Mirren and doing well, I have managed to go again, and it's been amazing."
Now an established member of the national team, Jonah Ayunga is focused on the future. "I feel like I am part of the team now, and we will be at AFCON 2027. So I want to make sure I am still in contention for that, and that would be amazing to go there as well."
