While Serah Teshna believes that the cash rewards are the sole thing motivating Harambee Stars to make a mark, Victor Wanyama insists that there is more to the money.

Harambee Stars started their CHAN 2024 campaign against DR Congo, securing a 1-0 victory. They then held Angola to a 1-1 draw before silencing two-time champions Morocco to a 1-0 victory, all matches being played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Serah Teshna, in conversation with the former Harambee Stars captain, noted that ever since President William Ruto promised Ksh 1 million for wins and Ksh 500,000 for draws, the team’s performance has been flawless.

“I think that you’re going to agree with me that the problem with Kenyan football is the money because after these guys were promised Ksh 1 million for every win and half a million for a draw, they have been performing exceptionally. True or false?” Serah Teshna said as she asked Victor Wanyama.

On his part, Victor Wanyama believes it is not only the money that is motivating Harambee Stars to make a mark in CHAN 2024.

He highlighted the impact of Benni McCarthy, the former Manchester United attacking coach and the thousands of fans who show up in the stadium to support the players.

Victor Wanyama revealed that Benni McCarthy is a one-of-a-kind coach who is slowly transforming Kenyan football.

“Somehow true, because you know money is everything, motivation is a big thing in football, and that thing can motivate players,” Victor Wanyama answered.

“We also have a world-class coach in Benni McCarthy, so you can see what he has done. This is just the beginning of the campaign.

“Yes, I expected a very tough game from Morocco, and it was. The 12th man, fans and the tactics from the coach paid off.”

Harambee Stars are now looking to make a mark in their final group stage match against Zambia on Sunday, August 17. They have been promised Ksh 2.5 million if they can manage to walk away with a win.
