CAF Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba has been left impressed by Kenya's preparedness for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN).

With just weeks to go until the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off, CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba has praised Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for their joint efforts in preparing for the tournament, calling the collaboration a model worth emulating across the continent.

All three countries will be co-hosting the tournament, set to take place from August 2nd to 30th 2025.

Kenya officially handed over both stadia they will be using for the tournament, with Kasarani and Nyayo both handed over to the CHAN Local Organising Committee, while Uganda and Tanzania also submitted their own facilities, and all is now set for the tournament.

Speaking from Nyayo National Stadium on Wednesday following a final CAF inspection visit, Mosengo-Omba expressed satisfaction with Kenya’s readiness:

“I'm really satisfied with what I’ve seen. The top-quality grass is here, the changing rooms—everything is in place. We are ready,” he said.

“Of course, there are just a few small things to fix, like moving a few chairs from one area to another. But we are set to kick off on the 2nd of August.”

He hailed the East African trio’s coordination and unity in organizing the event:

“This is a unified competition—three countries coming together as one. All three are doing well, and the coordination is excellent. The change of formation and logistics is being handled very smoothly.

“I think we in Africa need to learn from this model: three countries pooling effort and resources to successfully deliver one competition. That kind of unity and cooperation is something we should emulate.”

CS Salim Mvurya: Kenya Fully Prepared to Host CHAN

Also present during the inspection was Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, who reaffirmed Kenya’s state of preparedness and called on the public to support the tournament.

“I’m happy to hear that you’re planning to buy your ticket—yes, very soon everything will be set,” said Mvurya.

“I had a brief meeting in my office earlier, and the SG is also here to confirm and go through the final checks for hosting CHAN. The CAF delegation has already visited Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, and we later held an update meeting in my office.”

He emphasised that all logistical and infrastructural requirements have been addressed:

“I want to reassure Kenyans that we are ready to host CHAN 2024. Everything that has been required of us has been done, and CAF has confirmed that we are making excellent progress.”

“This week, we’re conducting simulation exercises on matters of security. On Wednesday in particular, we will have a security simulation training session—just to ensure that we leave nothing to chance.”

He concluded by rallying national support:

“Therefore, I call on all Kenyans to give their full support to ensure we deliver a world-class CHAN 2024 tournament.”

CHAN 2024 kicks off on August 2, with Group A matches—featuring Kenya, Angola, Zambia, DR Congo, and Morocco—all set to be played at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

The tournament is being co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, marking a historic first for the East African region.
