Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson has hinted that new signings, who include Kenyan prospect Zak Vyner, will not walk straight into the team despite their big money moves.

Harambee Stars prospect Zak Vyner has spoken of his desire to hit the ground running at his new club Wrexham but it seems he might have to fight out hard to earn his place in the team.

Vyner sealed a £1.5 million (Ksh267 million) transfer to the English Championship club from rivals Bristol City and is hoping to have a major impact and help them secure promotion to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old and forwards Davis Keillor-Dunn and Bailey Cadamarteri were the January arrivals at the big-spending Welsh club who have secured three straight promotions and are looking to complete their fairytale by making it to the Premier League.

However, coach Phil Parkinson is not making any guarantees to the new signings, saying he is keen to maintain the cohesion within his team after a major squad overhaul in the summer that saw 13 new players signed.

Wrexham Coach on Importance of Cohesion

"We made a lot of changes in the summer and when you bring so many players in, it takes a while to get to know individuals," he said as per North Wales Chronicles.

"It takes a while for players to settle, as everybody knows, and we're not the only club who's dealt with that. Our aim as a staff was if there's a couple of quality players to add to the group, we'll go for them.

"But ultimately, we want to work with the ones we've got and foster that spirit and togetherness which I feel has been a hallmark of us over the last four years.

"I always felt we'd signed some good players, but when you sign players and as the summer goes on, some come in late, some have missed pre-season, different. levels, you've got to manage that.”

No Guarantees For Zak Vyner and Co

In a bid to give assurances to his players, Parkinson says the new arrivals are meant to bolster the squad and not necessarily to take anyone’s place, a message to Vyner and the other two new signings that they will not walk straight into the team.

"We picked up some uncharacteristic injuries with the new players early in the season, (due to) different training methods or moving and doing a lot of travelling, but I feel we've come through that period now and the lads are in a good place,” he added.

"I'm pleased with the group and nobody's coming in to replace anybody, it'll just be to enhance the squad for what we need for this last third of the season."

Vyner will have to wait a little longer for his debut as he arrived nursing an ankle ligament injury.
