The soldiers have handed the former Bandari and AFC Leopards tactician the reins as they bid to regain lost glory
Ulinzi Stars have confirmed the appointment of former Bandari FC and AFC Leopards coach Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani as their new tactician, taking over from Bernard Mwalala who joined KCB last month.
Ulinzi had installed Vincent Moriero Odhiambo as their coach in an interim capacity as they sought Mwalala’s permanent replacement and have settled on Kimani, who they hope will lead them to glory after years of underperformance.
Kimani parted ways with Bandari at the beginning of May following a string of poor results with veteran coach Twahir Muhiddin handed the reins in an acting capacity.
He joined Bandari in February 2021 as an assistant to Rwandan coach Andre Cassa Mbungo and took over in an acting capacity after the Rwandese tactician was sacked due to poor results.

The three top contenders vie to fill the former Kenya international's shoes at Ulinzi Stars.
After impressing in the second leg of the 2021-22 season, Bandari confirmed him but he was relieved of his duties in May after the club had gone through a string of inconsistent results.
Kimani worked with Mbungo as his assistant at Leopards before he took over in an acting capacity following the Rwandan’s departure but later quit Ingwe, then under former coach Patrick Aussems, in February 2021, only to link up with the Rwandan at the Mombasa-based side.
Speaking to Pulse Sports in June, Kimani said he was ready to return to the dugout if he got a job that suited his preferences and it seems the soldiers sold their plan well to him.
“Every team has different dynamics, it is all about agreeing to meet each other halfway. So as when I get a team that we can both agree on the direction that we think is the best for the club, I am sure we can work something out,” he said at the time.
At Ulinzi, Kimani has his work cut out as the side finished a disappointing ninth last season after inconsistencies saw them fail to challenge for any trophies.
