The forward scored the only goal for Kenya to win 1-0 against Pakistan in the Four Nations Tournament opener.

Harambee Stars forward Moses Shummah has dedicated his goal against Pakistan to John Baraza and Patrick Odhiambo.

The two are tacticians who have handled the forward at Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz. Patrick Odhiambo is the current coach, while John was sacked as head coach in February.

"I attribute this goal to all those who have helped nurture my talent, especially John Baraza [former Kakamega Homeboyz coach] and my current coach, Patrick Odhiambo," Shummah told a local publication.

"I’m happy now, but what would make me follow in the footsteps of some of the best footballers in the country is bagging more goals, and that calls for a lot of work and dedication."

The goal came in Shummah’s first appearance for the national side, and he believes that this is the beginning of a great journey with Harambee Stars.

"I feel good to have scored my first goal for the national team. The goal means a lot to me and has given me a lot of confidence ahead of our match against Mauritius. I hope this is the start of good things to come."

Although Pakistan are ranked 195th globally, the Homeboyz star does not believe it was an easy game for them on Wednesday.

"In the second half, Pakistan played well and missed some good opportunities that would have ended up being goals had we not defended well. I think they are coming up well and will be a good team in the future," Shummah continued.

Since he signed from Division Two side KUSCO FC, Shumah has gone on to score vital goals for the Kakamega club.

His season’s highlight came when he scored against AFC Leopards in the FKF Cup duel at Nyayo Stadium. His opener, and Kevin Amwayi’s goal, were enough to hand Homeboyz a 2-1 victory and a passage to the final.

Homeboyz will face Tusker in the final.
