Shabana coach Peter Okidi has explained his young striker Austin 'Last Born' Odongo's role in helping them challenge for the FKFPL title.
Austin ‘Last Born’ Odongo is fast cementing his status as one of Kenyan football’s brightest prospects, and his contributions have played a key role in Shabana’s brilliant form under the stewardship of Peter Okidi.
Odongo, who burst on to the scene in 2024 , has been a revelation in the league, thanks in large part to his agility, hold up play and ability to move into the channels to get himself into goalscoring positions.
Odongo has been defying age and inexperience to lead the Shabana forward line in the second leg of the season, and it was a shock he was not part of the Kenya Set Up for the U20 AFCON campaign, where Rising Stars were eliminated at the group stages.

Odongo being man marked an advantage for us - Okidi
Regardless, his star continues to shine, so much so that the opposition teams have been tending to put two or three men on him every match, but it is something head coach Peter Okidi considers a tactical advantage.
“Going into these matches, we now know Austin Odongo can tend to be man-marked by two or three players, and that is an advantage for us,” Okidi told the media after the match.
During their win over KCB, it may have been Keith Imbali that scored the lone goal to give them all the three points, but Odongo is the one who created the space.

Kenya's Women's 4x400m Relay Team Reinstated and Record Restored After Successful Appeal
Kenya's women's 4x400m relay team was reinstated after a successful appeal, following earlier disqualification.
Receiving the ball with his back to goal, he dragged KCB defender Francis Oduor out of position and then turned to whip a floated ball toward Brian Michira, who laid it off to Keith Imbali for the goal.
It was a moment of clever play that sealed all three points and highlighted Odongo’s tactical awareness in Shabana’s two-striker system.
Reflecting on the decision to deploy two forwards, Okidi explained that the team needed to bounce back after a controversial loss to Gor Mahia.
“We started two strikers because we wanted a win. We lost under controversial circumstances in the previous game (against Gor Mahia), so we needed to get a win, and that is why we started our potent strikers,” he said.

Benni McCarthy Reveals Why He Snubbed South Africa And Europe For Harambee Stars Role
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has opened on why he chose the Kenyan national football team coaching role despite being linked with a return to either South Africa or Europe.
“We got it right tactically, so we hope everyone can keep pushing.”
The coach also reserved praise for match-winner Keith Imbali, who started on the bench but made an immediate impact when introduced.
“It was tactical. We start players depending on how they train. We knew he had the energy to see off the game because of how he trained, so we understood him,” Okidi explained.
“We told him either to lock the game or unlock the game, and he unlocked the game for us, so we are grateful for his impact.”
