Nzoia Sugar have appointed seasoned coach Mike Mururi to help them avoid relegation with the club bottom of the table after a run of poor results.

Nzoia Sugar FC have turned to experienced coach Mike Mururi to save their season following the suspension of Steve Biko early in the week.

The club, who are bottom of the FKF Premier League tbale, suspended Biko after winning one of his four matches in charge since replacing Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor in January and have now put Mururi in charge.

Former Vihiga United, Kakamega Homeboyz and Mulembe United coach Mururi will have to use all his experience to save the sinking Nzoia ship as they have won just four of their 23 matches, managing a paltry 16 points.

Nzoia’s last win came on February 11 when they beat Bidco United 2-1 and followed it up with back-to-back defeats against Bandari and AFC Leopards.

The club has been on a freefall this season since the departure of coach Salim Babu to Kenya Police as well as the exodus of the players who led them to an impressive third place finish last season.

Nzoia look unrecognisable from the side that challenged Gor Mahia and Tusker FC for the title for most of the 2022-23 campaign with financial challenges also cited as one of the factors pegging them back.

Mururi is therefore their third coach this season and he faces the difficult task of getting the most out of a squad that is low on confidence as they seek to retain their top flight status with 11 games to go.

It is not known if Mururi will be in the dugout on Sunday when Nzoia take on FC Talanta at Sudi Stadium but they badly need to start winning if they have to avoid relegation that appears inevitable.

Talanta, placed 13th on the log, comes into the match on the back of a three-game unbeaten run in the league after identical 1-1 draws against Sofapaka, Kariobangi Sharks, and Kakamega Homeboyz and will fancy their chances against Nzoia.
