Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicolas Muyoti has heaped praise on his goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe for stepping up and playing a crucial role in the side’s surge up the table.

Mulokwe was named man of the match for his performance against Bandari at the Ruaraka grounds and looked super impressive as he made a string of saves that gave Simba wa Nairobi all the three points.

Speaking to Pulse Sports after the win over the Dockers which now puts the side in eighth place on 21 points, Muyoti revealed that Mulokwe will play an important role in keeping the defence tight as they continue transitioning in order to become strong.

“That was an outstanding performance by my keeper,” Muyoti said. “ I think he is also growing. Of the three keepers we have, he is the most experienced and it is showing,” he added.

“I am happy now that it is showing and I think bringing him into the team shows us that he is making a big difference and as as we continue fixing our defence, he will be the man tasked with ensuring it is organised.

“I am happy he is stepping up to the task and he is doing the job very well.”

In the first three games of the season, Mukolwe was an understudy to Elvis Ochoro, the only keeper who stayed on after last season.

After sitting out the opening three games into the 2023-24 FKF Premier League season, the new signing finally earned his Nairobi City Stars debut in the fourth game against Nzoia Sugar on September 24, 2023.

He has featured in every game since, now playing 10 games and keeping two cleansheets in each of his last two appearances.

The experienced goalkeeper signed from Bidco United in the off season. Looking ahead, City Stars will be facing Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi this weekend, seeking to keep their good run going.
