Tusker must beat Vihiga Bullets on Sunday and hope other results elsewhere favor them to retain the title.

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has revealed what his charges must do in order to beat Vihiga Bullets and stand a chance of retaining the FKF Premier League title this season.

The Brewers will face Vihiga Bullets at the Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday knowing that a win could give them a chance at winning the league should results elsewhere go their way.

The reigning champions had a glorious chance to return to the summit of the table had they beaten Posta Rangers as Gor Mahia were beaten 3-2 by Kakamega Homeboyz, but were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by the John Kamau-coached outfit.

Matano was quick to berate the lack of impact his substitutions including Jackson Macharia and David Majak made.

“They did not step up as expected. We subbed them on to help retain possession and play around and they did not play the way we expected them to but they have also been out for a long time and are not sharp.

“But we have been working on the training ground to help us get a result at Vihiga.”

The three-time league-winning coach has told his troops to avoid overthinking and become more relaxed which could help them get a good result against the already relegated outfit.

“We need to become more calm and clinical. We need to know what we are doing in front of the goal. We have to work on our area of finishing.

“We have to work on becoming calmer. We should not play under pressure. We have to realize that they (Gor Mahia) did not win. So we just have to do our job and hope for the best.”

Tusker are second on 66 points, one behind Gor Mahia. Should they beat Vihiga and Gor draw or lose against Nairobi City Stars, they will have been crowned champions. Nothing short of a win will be acceptable for them to stand a chance.
