The Super Eagles star continued his rich vein of form as Leicester City came back from a goal down to thrash Tottenham Hotspur.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored and created an assist for the second consecutive game as Leicester City thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in their Premier League match at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Iheanacho’s performance came after he scored and provided two assists in Leicester's 4-2 win over Aston Villa last weekend.

How it happened

The Nigerian had been struggling for game time before last week, but Tete’s arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk forced Leicester City’s manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers stuck with Iheanacho for the visit of Tottenham, with the Nigerian leading the line for the Foxes.

Tete, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison played behind him, but there was no room for Wilfred Ndidi, who came on as a substitute after recovering from an injury.

Tottenham came into the game on a high after beating Manchester City last week, and it showed in their start as Rodrigo Bentancur put them ahead in the 14th minute.

However, their lead lasted for just nine minutes as Nampalys Mendy rifled home a rocket to level the score for Leicester.

Rodgers’ men dominated the rest of the game following the equaliser, with Maddison putting them ahead two minutes later.

The England international finished home following great work from Iheanacho, who notched his third consecutive assist.

Iheanacho then turned from provider to scorer as he went on a brilliant solo run before curling the ball past Fraser Forster in Tottenham’s goal.

Spurs lack of response

Leicester went into the break with a comfortable lead but they resumed the second half with more purpose. The Foxes continued to search for more, and they had the ball in the back of the net through Barnes.

However, his strike was ruled out following a VAR review. It did not, matter, though as Barnes fired in a brilliant curler from the edge of the box nine minutes from time to secure a deserved victory for Leicester.

State of things

The result takes Leicester to 13th place with 24 points from 22 games while Spurs remain one point behind Newcastle, having played two more games.

The two teams return to Premier League action next weekend, with Spurs hosting West Ham, while Leicester travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

However, before then, Spurs have the little matter of a Champions League first leg round of 16 clash against AC Milan on Tuesday.
