Kenya Police became champions of Kenya for the first time in their history, and Okoth, who made his Harambee Stars debut last January, has revealed the reasons why.
Kenya Police defender Brian Okoth has revealed the key attribute that helped them turn around their season from bottom of the league to champions of Kenya for the first time in their history.
Okoth, who made his Harambee Stars debut at the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup last January, scored the only goal as Kenya Police overcame Shabana to officially win the title with a game to spare on Sunday afternoon.
The result has now seen Police become title holders a whole four years since winning promotion back to the top flight of Kenyan football, having invested millions and millions of shillings to soar to the top.

Bob Kersee has voiced frustration over the cancellation of the LA Grand Slam Track Meet.
From Relegation Zone to Champions
Speaking to Tata Sports following their win in Machakos, Okoth, who joined the Law Enforcers in January 2024 from FC Talanta, was ecstatic, explaining what netting the historic goal meant for him on a personal and collective level.
“We have faced a lot of challenges and competition has been very stiff, but we are grateful to God that we finally managed to win our first FKF Premier League trophy,” said Okoth.
Okoth netted the goal on fathers’ day, and dedicated his exploits not just to his dad Washington Okoth, but also his mom Sophie Akinyi.
“I dedicate this win and goal to my mother and father.”
It has not been an easy ride for Police. They started the season with Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani as their head coach.

Benni McCarthy: FKF President Explains How Harambee Stars Coach Can Leave Amid Orlando Pirates Links
FKF president Hussein Mohammed has revealed what the contract of Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy says about a possible exit following links to Orlando Pirates.
Although the club just missed out on qualifying for the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 3-1 to Zamalek on aggregate, having displayed good football, they struggled to recapture their momentum for the opening phase of the season.
This left them with no choice but to relieve Kimani of his duties, alongside his coaching staff that included Salim Babu - the coach that led them to their first major trophy in the FKF Cup last season.
The decision to hire Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije last December was a good one, as he managed to oversee a turnaround in fortunes and help the club win the league title.
While the coaching change brought structure, Okoth credits player unity and team spirit as the true driving force behind their remarkable rise.
“The season has been tough. We faced our own challenges. We started bottom of the league and by the 10th match, we were bottom of it,” he explained.
“But we had to come together as a group and decided to style up. It has helped us soar to the summit and maintain our status.”
“The camaraderie and brotherhood that we generated has played a huge deal in making us league champions.”
Millions Invested, Dreams Realized

Kenya Police’s triumph is also a testament to sustained investment over recent years. The club has spent millions of shillings since their promotion, with the aim of challenging Kenya’s elite. This season, that vision has been realized as they managed to dethrone Gor Mahia, Kenya’s most successful club.
With continental football beckoning once more and a title to defend, Kenya Police will hope this is just the beginning of a new footballing dynasty.
